Giftedness

        Children are gifted when their ability is significantly above the norm for their age. Giftedness may manifest in one or more domains such as; intellectual, creative, artistic, leadership, or in a specific academic field such as language arts, mathematics or science.         Gifted children can be quite different from one another, depending on their areas of giftedness and levels of giftedness. Often levels of giftedness based on IQ fall into these categories (although these vary among those who study giftedness and depending on the assessment tool used):

• Moderately gifted—IQ of 130+

• Highly gifted—IQ of 145+

• Profoundly gifted—IQ of 160+

        An IQ of 100 is considered to be in the middle of the average range. Most educators adjust their lessons for students who have been found to have IQs 30 or more points below that average; the same needs to be done for those who are just as far away from the average in the other direction.
